A Des Plaines police officer was on patrol in the area of Lee Street and Oakton Street on Sunday, July 24 at 10:54 p.m. when he allegedly observed a vehicle with a license plate violation. That stop on the 600 block of Van Buren Avenue led to the arrest of a Chicago man on various drug-related charges.

According to reports, after spotting the vehicle, the officer activated his emergency equipment and curbed the vehicle. Upon making contact with the driver Elliot Mora, 21, of 6601 S. Western Ave., the officer said he detected a strong odor of cannabis emitting from inside the vehicle. Mora, said police, relayed he had a small amount of cannabis inside of the vehicle and consented to a search.

Mora and two other passengers exited the vehicle and while searching the backseat, the officer allegedly located a black bag containing approximately 77 segregated tabs of decorated paper suspected to be Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD), a green leafy substance suspected to be cannabis, several small resealable plastic baggies, a scale and an open container of alcohol. Reports said Mora relayed the bag belonged to him. He was placed into custody and transported to the downtown Des Plaines Police Station. Once at the station, Mora was read his Miranda warnings, which he stated he understood, and allegedly admitted the tabs of paper were LSD, the green leafy substance was cannabis and that it all belonged to him.

The tabs and green leafy substance were tested using a Narcotics Identification Kit which police said showed the probable presence of LSD and approximately 80 grams of cannabis. Mora was subsequently arrested for Possession of Controlled Substance, Possess with Intent to Deliver Cannabis, Possession of Cannabis. Mora was also cited with No Front Registration Plate, Operating Uninsured Motor Vehicle, Drivers License Not on Person.
