Tour Sears Island with clinical herbalist Steve Byers on Tuesday, Aug. 3, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. for a plant identification class, “Reading the Landscape: How to ID Plants and Patterns in Ecosystems.”

This will be a hands-on, interactive walk across the beaches, wetlands and uplands of the island where you’ll learn how to identify trees, shrubs and flowering plants according to their various ecosystems.

The event is free and no preregistration is necessary. Participants should meet at the kiosk just beyond the island gate by 9:30 a.m. with water, a snack, insect repellant and dressed for a walk in the woods. Pets are not permitted on these guided walks. Summer is a good time to take a Story Walk on Sears Island. The walk follows the story “Between the Tides” by Fran Hodgkins on the Homestead Trail and will be up until Aug. 31.

Don’t forget to get your ticket for the Carver Library Chef’s Showcase garden party, Saturday, Aug. 6, from 4 to 6 p.m. on the library grounds. All the restaurants of Searsport will be represented with tastes of the food in their establishments. Tickets are $20 per person in advance at the library or $25 at the door. This is a fundraiser for landscaping for the library grounds. There will be chairs and tables available.

Tuesday, Aug. 9, at 6:30 p.m. will bring three local authors to the library to discuss their books. After 33 years of teaching, Patsy Baldus will talk about her memoir, “Love, Lutefisk, and Lemon Zest Sneakers.” It is a humorous and sometime poignant account of everyday family experiences.

Janet Williams has written a delightful children’s book, “Maxx and Mrs. Queen,” that is an animal rescue story from the perspective of several precocious cats. So it is not a surprise that any revenues from sale of the book go to shelters and animal rescue groups.

Kim Yesis has written a book about exploring the world of art with her artist husband, Peter Yesis, called, “Side by Side,” which is an endearing account of their creative marriage partnership.

Other events at the library include Book Club on Tuesday, Aug. 9, at 1 p.m. on the library lawn where the wildly popular book, “Where the Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens, will be discussed. Come and comment or just listen. Everyone is welcome.

The Tiny Art show will be running from Aug. 1 to 12. This will be a display of 3-by-3-inch paintings done from the July DIY kits.

Every Friday at 10:30 a.m. is Outdoor Storytime with Rhonda Nichols. Always a lot of fun, music and motion!

Please take a look at the Children’s Quilt that is being raffled for children’s programs at the library. It was made by Louise Seekins featuring nostalgic book images from Liberty Graphics. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. The lucky ticket will be drawn in the fall.
