The problems between China and the United States maintain high levels of tension on security and privacy issues. After the veto against Huawei and other technology firms, electronics stores withdrew products from the Lorex and Ezviz firms from their catalog, in compliance with the blockades imposed on North American soil.According to Tech Crunch, the Home Depot chain decided to withdraw these supplies because they are "committed to maintaining the highest ethical sourcing standards."Similar decisions were made at Best Buy, Lowe's, and other franchises. The decision responds to the role that the companies Dahua and Hikvision, parent companies of Lorex and Ezviz, had in the repression of ethnic minorities in Xinjiang, a province in which a huge Uyghur Muslim community lives. The treatment of this group was described by the United States as "human rights violations and abuses", so they decided to include these Chinese technology brands on a blacklist of entities.According to reports, Dahua - Lorex's parent company - was in charge of giving support to the Chinese government for the use of facial recognition and racial identification algorithms in border controls with, in order to identify Uyghurs. On the other hand, Hikvision cameras – the company that owns Ezviz – were installed in detention camps in Xinjiang, as part of Chinese control over this community. This block applied to Dahua and Hikvision, however, did not contemplate the subsidiary brands.Because of that, both Lorex and Ezviz had no problem establishing commercial agreements with distributors in the United States.
